IDEAS AND FINAL PRODUCTION

The screen shots below show different stages of Carrie editing the logo. Directly below is the finished logo. As you look down at the start you can see the different stages in production.
This was a final product but we played around with what side the brush should go, we asked our client what she thought and a few random people and they said the other side so we swaped sides.

In this screen shot, the Paint brush is actually not ours, by this i mean we didnt make it our selves. So obviously we couldnt use it so Carrie had to make our own paint brush.

Here you can see, Carrie has created a paintbrush herself and underneath you can see she has added for more detail. In the final production you can see how it looks.

RESPONSE TO BRIEF

Pre-Production Phase
In this stage we started to prepare our work by this we researched in to different colour schemes, different logos within the same genre, that being coaching company, also we could of done a market serve but we didnt.

Production Phase
Here is where we created 3 different ideas to present to our client and took these on board and started to make the final product. We went on to the finish the final product after little adjustments made such as colouring and text size.

We didnt really face and difficulties, as Carrie already knew how to use the software and i was quite confident with researching and liasing with the client, the client was very reliable within we could always contact her and she was very clear about adjustments and things we wanted added to the final production.

Any changes to brief of plan
there we no changes we stuck to our orignial idea throughout the whole production.
How you dealt with any difficulties

RESOURCES AVAILABLE

We only had a few resources which are
Photoshop: we mainly used this resource as Carrie said it is easier to use.
Illustrator: Carrie used this to create ideas but said she struggled as she wasent use to the layout and was much more comfertable with using Photoshop.

TEAM MEMEBERS INVOLVED

Carrie: Her role is to design different ideas for the client, and when the client wants thing changed of added i pass on the information and tell her to do so.

Ele: That is me, i liase with the client regulary and see what she thinks of the ideas and if she wanted anything changed, also i conduct research on logos in the same "genre" so to speak as ours.

TIME SCALE AND MEETING WITH CLIENT

Timescale
We have 4 weeks to complete are final product.
The first week will be spent leasing with the client, going through the specificities of the brief with her, and seeing what is crucial to be included in the product.
By the end of the first week we want to be able to have a plan of what kind of ideas we are going to experiment with.
During the second the week we will create 3 different detailed ideas ready to show the client by the end of the week.
At the end of the week we will meet with the client to show our three different ideas, we will see what idea she likes and if she wants more things added, as in colours, shapes, words and so on or even if she wants us to take certain things away from one of the ideas.
The third week will consist of finishing the final product the client has chosen making sure it is exactly what she wants.
The last week of production will be to show the client one more time and if she likes it that will be the final production. By the end of the week the product will be completed and presented to the client we will collect feedback comments from the client too see what we could improve next time.
Meeting with the client
We first met with our client at the start of production to go through the brief to see what was most important to be included. She told us how shapes and colours were important and how she does not want it to be perceived as a arts and crafts business as it is called “The Paint Box”.

The second time we met was to show her some ideas we had come up, we came up with 3 ideas and presented them to the client. She liked all the ideas for different things they had. So she asked if we could combine different aspects from each one.

The third time we met was to show her final design, she was happy with the design and wanted to use it.

Availability of each member and client
Me and Carrie have told our client we are available when ever she wants to discuss anything to do with the logo as we want the best possible outcome, our client said she is available every evening from 5pm onwards and all day on Saturday and Sunday.

COLOUR RESEARCH

Looking at the right habe side of the colours choosen, we think that the pastel colours work well together, isnt to childish, and as the current logo also use pastels, we think its good to stick to them.

Although these are also pastel colours, we think they are to dark in order to attract people.

These are also a good choice of pastel colours ranging from dark to light.

RESEARCH EVIDENCE OF POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS

All these logos are in the same business as the Paintbox, looking at these designs the ideas are very serious  and in their logo they have included text, which tells your straight away what their business is, which makes me think in a competitive market, the paint box would have that too. "Watt Works" i think this is a fun quirky logo, however by looking at it you would have no idea what or who the logo was for. By looking at different logos i think our logo defiantly needs to be self explanatory, brightly coloured to attract attention, however colours that will attract mainly and older age group.

Production Log

7th February: This lesson i have done secondary research on graphics, looking in to detail at colours, shapes, sizes that will go well with what was asked of us in the brief.

21st February: Today i started experimenting on illustator and playing around with different shapes and sizes and also colours. Also carryed on our secondary research, next week we need to look at simalir buisnesses and see what colours they are using and do a full logo search and see what would work well.

27th March: Today i wrote up on my blog what i spoke to the client about and what her thoughts were, Carrie continued to edit the design ideas to make sure they went with what they client wanted as her final logo.

Secondary research on graphics

Our client had informed us to create a new logo for her company "the paintbox". She wants us to produce a range of ideas for her to see, so then she can choose what shapes, sizes and colours she wants us to use to produce the final logo.

To have a understanding of the millions of different sizes, texts, shapes, formats there are have done some secondary research to see whats popular. However as the logo we have to design is for a "classy" professional business the research is going to have to be more specific to what we hope the logo to be like.

Questions on Briefs

With reference to examples explain the differences between a contractual brief and a competition brief.
A contractual brief involves a signed agreement with stated objectives. If you or the other party were to break any agreements you would be in breech of contract and could face legal action. The difference being between the two is that with a competition briefs its avaliable to everyone and you dont have to stick to certain things, you wouldnt have to lias with the client of ask them if you can change something. However if you were to break a agreement your entry would be declined.

With reference to a current brief, give an explanation of your role in a group project you have been working on. What are your duties? What professional qualities do you need to fulfil the brief?

We are currently doing a short clip on recycling, my role in this is to film footage, i also have to find archive footage and music to go with the documentary. Within my role i need to make sure the filming is all completed by the deadline but make sure i capture everything in the way it needs to be captured by this i mean certain angles certain light etc. Also by having to find music i have to make sure its copyright free.

With reference to a specific example, explain your interaction with the client and what changes, or further understanding occurred.

I didnt really refer alot back to the client, which probably wasen't very good, as if i did the clip would of probably been much better, however i did ask if certains things should be included, or if certain camera shots needed to be used, when the client watched the developing clip, they commented on things that needed to be included, other areas that could be filmed. From liasing with the client a bit, i learnt how important it was i did speak to them, as if i didnt i could of produced something that was completly wrong and could of gone over budget or missed a important deadline.

With reference specific examples, explain what new skills you developed during the undertaking of a brief.
From undertaking a brief i have learnt alot, i have basically learnts what a brief is and what its purpose is. I have learnt how to understand whats asked of me by this i mean i now know how important it is, it read what the brief says and not just interpretate it (depending on what brief it is). Also how liasing with your client through out the production is very important as by doing this you could improve the project more than you think you could. Refering to the brief i was given on recycling. First of all i didnt read it properly, i only took notice that they wanted a shot clip promoting recycling however as i read more i learnt of certain requirements needed within the clip. I have learnt to work within a group and distrbirute the work and have it all done by a deadline, aswell as that i have learnt that all information in the brief is key, weither it the backgrounf information to something as important as the target audience.

With reference to an example, explain the opportunities and constraints you encountered with a brief and how you responded to them.
Recieving a brief gave me the opportunity to realise how much competition there is, by this i mean i was given a brief on recycling, i needed to realise that my idea (to stand out) had to be creative, different and be able to get its point across easily and clearly. However i soon found out this was very difficult and struggled to see what i could do to make mine so much better then everyone else who is trying to do the same thing as me. However never the less if gave me a opportunity to have the chance to work to a brief, and realise how important it is you stick to the brief a lias with your client, also it gave me opportunities to be independent and have to organise planning and production work and also work to a deadline.
